MS counselling for plan-managed and self-managed NDIS participants
I'm Em. I've lived with MS for nearly 20 years, and I counsel adults with MS online, anywhere in Australia.
Can I use my NDIS funding for MS counselling?
If your NDIS plan is plan-managed or self-managed, you may be able to use your funding for MS counselling with me. Check with your plan manager or support coordinator before you book.

I invoice your plan manager after each session, with my ABN.
Self-managed- YES
I invoice you. You claim it back, up to the NDIS price limit.

I'm not a registered provider. You can book privately.

Questions about NDIS and MS counselling
-
Take these to them before you book:
Does my plan have funding for counselling, and which budget would it come from?
Am I plan-managed or self-managed? (If you're not sure, ask.)
Can my plan manager pay an unregistered provider who has an ABN?
What's the most they'll pay for a 40-minute and a 50-minute session?
How many sessions can I afford before my next plan review?
Do I need to ask for counselling to be added at my next plan review?
-
I counsel people with MS on the parts of it that don't show up in a neurology appointment: a new diagnosis, fear of progression, grief and identity, fatigue and brain fog at work, parenting and relationships with MS, support before, during and after AHSCT, and the emotional aftermath of a relapse.
I'm a counsellor with a Bachelor of Public Health. I'm not a psychologist. I don't diagnose, provide clinical psychology, or give medical advice. Your neurologist treats the disease. I work with what it's doing to your life. Counselling helps people carry MS differently. It doesn't fix it or guarantee an end to fear or grief.

You can ask about adding it at your next plan review, or book privately. A private initial consultation is $89 and there's no referral needed. If you're deciding between a counsellor and a psychologist, I've written about the difference.
